Wego Kite Tube Recall
In 2005, SportsStuff Inc. of Omaha came out with the “cool” new toy called Wego Kite Tubes. Roughly 19,000 of these products were bought from stores or shipped to consumers. Although the toy was an instant hit with children, the product has caused several injuries and multiple deaths. The United States Consumer and Product Safety Commission have reports of 39 accidents, of which 29 of them needed medical attention for neck, back, chest, lungs and face injuries. Two accidents reported to SportsStuff Inc. have resulted in death.
When asked if the product was defective, SportsStuff Inc. claimed that the Wego Kite Tubes did not have any manufacturers defect. However, they immediately recalled the Wego Kite Tubes and stopped manufacturing and selling these products, claiming the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission mandated them to do so.
Following the Wego Kite Tube Recall, SportsStuff Inc. also started offering a product replacement program. Unfortunately, this replacement plan cannot fix the injuries or wrongful death of a loved one caused by this defective product.
